Its ears are pointed, long, and hanging. Its neck is thick, arched, slightly sloping, and short. Its back is straight and level, and its tail is carried high. Its legs are short and well-muscled. Its feet are large. It has a double coat of medium length and density. The undercoat is soft and fine. The topcoat is short, close lying, and lacks an undercoat. The hair on the face is sparse. Its coloring is variable. It can be white, gray, brindle, or red. The preferred colors are red, sable, and wolf grey. There are no other acceptable colors. The temperament of the Southern Russian Ocherk is fearless and dominant. This breed is aloof with strangers and reserved with other dogs. It is intelligent and hardworking.
