The Kerry Blue Terrier is a terrier that originated in Ireland. The Kerry Blue is a medium to large-sized, rugged, working terrier that was originally developed for foxhunting. The Kerry Blue was officially recognized in 1935, and is classified by the Kennel Club as a “Terrier”. The around 5,000 remaining Kerry Blues are mainly found in Ireland.

Standard Kerry Blue Schnauzer Physical Characteristics
The Standard Kerry Blue Schnauzer is a medium size, short-coated, and lightly built herding breed. They stand 20-22 inches at the shoulders. The breed has a somewhat thicker, coarser outer coat with a soft, woolly undercoat. The head is of moderate muscularity and bone. The muzzle is of medium length and tapers slightly in width. The jaws are strong with a perfect, regular and complete scissor bite. The eyes of the standard kerry blue schnauzer are dark brown, almond-shaped and well spaced. The ears are erect and triangular in shape. The tail is thick and set on high and proudly carried. The neck is strong with good length. The back is level, strong and well-muscled. The forequarters are straight with powerful, well muscled shoulders and well-angulated hips. The hindquarters are strong and well developed, with well placed, strong hocks. The feet are round, compact and catlike in structure. The standard kerry blue schnauzer has a long, thick, harsh, single coat with longer hair and feathering on the neck and shoulders. The mane and beard are longer and fuller and fall over the eyes and the cheeks. The coloring of the kerry blue schnauzer is either solid or slate with black, gray, or liver ticking.
