Swedish Cattle Dog History

The Swedish Cattle Dog is a breed of herding dog originally from Sweden, where it is known as the Svartsjöhund (“Svartsjo” meaning “Black Earth”). It is now also known in some countries by the name Drover. The Swedish Cattle Dog is a medium size, robust, well balanced and muscular working and farm dog. The head is in proportion to the body, with a slightly rounded skull, moderately broad forehead, and well developed cheek muscles. The chest is deep and broad with well sprung ribs. The tail is carried high, reaching to the hock. The body is longer than tall. The coat is short, hard, and wiry. The coat may be either black, red, brown, or gray.
