Tibetan Wolfhound History
The Tibetan wolf hound is a medium-sized, muscular, scent hound. It is one of the few hounds that hunts both by sight and by scent. The Tibetan wolf hound is a relatively modern animal. The 11th and 12th century Chinese text, Shen-nung Bencaojing, decribed the Tibetan Beta as a working hounds, but it was only confirmed as a distinct species in 2010.

The Tibetan Wolfhound is an enormous, giant-sized, extremely tall, heavily built, and muscular breed of dog that typically stands between 30 to 32.5 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between 130 to 180 pounds. Their coats are long and shaggy with their hair standing up. They have deep chests and short, broad heads with erect ears and a Komondor-like beard and moustache. The Tibetan Wolfhounds have dark eyes. They are calm and friendly dogs and are protective of their family.
