Westiepoo History
The Westie Poo is a cross between the West Highland White Terrier and the Miniature Poodle. The cross-breeding of Westies with poodles began in the 1980s, and resulted in the creation of the Bearded Collie. The Bearded Collie was a cross between a West Highland White Terrier and a Standard or Miniature Poodle. The “beard” on the Bearded Collie was a distinctive and unwanted trait. The Bearded Collie was crossed with other dogs, such as the Bichon Frise and Shih Tzu, to remove these undesirable traits. The breeders were ultimately successful, and the “Bearded Doodle” (or “Westiedoodle”), as it is called today, was born. The “Bearded Doodle” was very popular in the 1990s and early 2000s. The popularity of the “Bearded Doodle” waned in the early 2000s, but recently the “Bearded Doodle” has seen a resurgence in popularity, due in large part to celebrities such as Paris Hilton, who have adopted the Westie Poo as a pet.

Westiepoo Temperament and Behaviour
The Westiepoo is a sociable and adaptable dog that makes a great companion. They are outgoing and friendly with humans and children, but can be shy with strangers. They are extremely loyal to their owners, but are also independent and can make their own decisions. Westies are generally healthy, but may develop eye and respiratory problems.
Westiepoo Activity Requirements
Westiepoos are a mix between a purebred West Highland White Terrier and a Toy Poodle. This combination results in a loving and devoted, yet independent, dog. Westiepoos are small, compact dogs that do not need a great deal of space to be happy. However, they do require daily walks in order to stay healthy and happy. A daily walk or romp in the yard will keep your Westiepoo happy and less prone to separation anxiety. These dogs are highly intelligent and respond well to training, so early socialization and puppy obedience classes are highly recommended.
