Yorkie Russell History
The Yorkshire Terrier is named after the Yorkshire region of England, where it was developed in the mid-19th century. The Yorkshire Terrier is a tiny, toy-sized terrier that is compact, sturdy, and agile. The Yorkie is affectionately known as “The Baby Lion” because of its lion-like mane and tail. The Yorkies come in three coat types: the wool, the broken, and the smooth. The Yorkshire Terrier is a lively, playful, and affectionate companion. The origin of the name is disputed. The most common theory is that the breeder named his dogs after his native county of Yorkshire, although some claim the ancestors of the Yorkshire Terrier were Scottish terriers and the name came from a corruption of the Scottish name “Yeokit” or “York”. The Yorkie, with its distinctive beard and moustache, became a member of the AKC in 1885. The Yorkie has been the 19th most popular purebred in the USA since 1991. Yorkie Russell Temperament and Behaviour
The Yorkshire Terrier and the Jack Russel are playful, comical, and energetic. They are great at learning tricks, and love to be around people. They are often described as “velcro” dogs, because they like to be with their owners at all times. They get along well with children and other small household pets, but may be wary with strangers.
Yorkie Russell Activity Requirements
Yorkies can be playful, but they can also be quite lazy, preferring to spend their days lounging around. The less-active nature of this dog makes it well suited for apartment living, but it is important to make sure he gets enough exercise and mental stimulation to be healthy and happy.
