The Afghan Sheepdog is a small, medium-to-large sized breed that typically stands between 15 and 20.5 inches high at the shoulders, and 45 and 70.5 inches at the withers, and weights between 30 and 60 lbs. They have an oblong, but broad, muscular head, and a straight back. The tail is carried low and is thick. The hair is long and straight, and slightly wavy. Its color is fawn, brindle, or sable, or can be any combination of these colors. The nose is black.

The Afghan is a medium to large, short-coated herding dog. They are extremely intelligent, calm, and loyal. They are not as high energy as some other breeds, but they do require regular exercise. While the Afghan does not need an exhausting, hour-long workout, they do enjoy regular walks. A daily outing will keep them healthy and give them a chance to socialize.
