Airedale Shepherd History
The Airedale Shepherd is a fairly new hybrid, or designer, breed of dog that was developed by mixing the conformation of the German Shepherd with the working abilities of the Airedale Terrier. The temperament and working abilities of the Airedale Terrier were combined with the intelligence and trainability of the German Shepherd to create the Airdale Shepherd. The mix is a typical shepherd, with medium-length double coat that comes in shades of red, tan, and brindle. The head is square, with a broad muzzle and alert, dark brown eyes. The ears are small, triangular, and erect. The legs are straight and muscular and the tail is docked. Height at the withers is 61-70 cm (24-28 in) for females and 71-80 cm (28-32 in) for males. Weight ranges from 30-40 kg (66-88 lb).
