American French Bulldog History
The American French Bulldog is a cross-breed of the Miniature and Standard French Bulldogs. They are generally loving, loyal, playful and quite intelligent. Unlike other hybrid breeds which tend to inherit traits from both parents, the American French Bulldog is a mix between the English and French strains of the French Bulldog, and possesses traits from both sides. Originally bred in France, the American French bulldog is relatively new to the United States. One variant of the breed, the “Frenchie”, has been in America since the 1980’s. Another variant, the “Boston”, came about when the “Frenchie” was crossed with the “Boxer”, creating the “Frenchie Boxer”. These “hybrid” dogs are commonly referred to as the “American” or “Newfie”. The “Newfie” is a combination of the “Boxer”, the “Chihuahua”, and the “Doberman Pinscher”.

American French Bulldog Activity Requirements
American French Bulldogs are a cross between traditional French and English bulldogs. They are small, compact, and muscular, and they tend to resemble their English counterparts more than their French ancestors. Because American Frenchies are a result of two different bloodlines, their personalities and characteristics vary. They are generally sweet, playful, and outgoing. As with all puppies, it is important to socialize them while they are young. This will help them become friendly, well-rounded adults. The American Kennel Club does not currently recognize the American Frenchie as a purebred dog. They are still a fairly new addition to the canine world, so their exact temperaments are still being studied.
