American Pit Corso History
The American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier are both descended from the bulldog. The “pit bull” name was created because early dogfighting pits were referred to as “bull and bear” fights. Early pit bulls were selectively bred for fighting, but the modern “American Pit Bull Terrier” (APDT) is descended from a now-extinct “Bull and Terrier” type that was primarily used for bull-baiting. Modern APDTs are more closely related to Staffordshire Bull Terriers and English Bulldogs than to other pit bulls. The APDT was developed by Robert Baker, an American breeder who imported bulldogs from Britain in 1886. Baker crossed these rough-coated animals with terriers to created the “New Orleans” or “N.O.” type. These dogs had a shorter snout, a flatter skull, and thicker necks.

American Pit Corso Temperament and Behaviour
The American Pit Corso is a large, powerful, and imposing dog breed. They are athletic and strong, with a muscular build and a large head. They are confident and fearless, and can be aggressive and protective if they feel their family is threatened. They are intelligent and trainable, but need a firm and experienced owner who can provide them with consistent leadership. They are not the best choice for first-time dog owners.
American Pit Corso Activity Requirements
American Pit Corsos are a fairly new breed of dog, originally developed in the United States by crossing a Pitbull with a Mastiff. They have a powerful build and were originally bred for guarding and protection. While they are not a high energy dog, they do require regular walks to stay in shape. They also do well with sports like agility, flyball, and tracking. American Pit Corsos are not a high-energy breed, but they do need regular exercise to stay happy and healthy. While all dogs benefit from a daily walk, a properly exercised American Pit Corso will be calm, well behaved, and happy, even around new people and new situations.
