The Antebellum Bulldog is a medium-sized American bulldog that was developed by crossing the English bulldog with the old timey Bull-and-Terrier blend. The ante-bellum bulldog is believed to have come about when breeders began to cross the Old English Bulldog with the Olde Timee bull and terrier. The Old English Bulldogs had long been crossed with the more aggressive mastiff type, resulting in the development of the early Pit Bull, but this factor was too strong for the other traits to appear in the offspring. A more subdued mix resulted, which, when crossed with the more docile old time pit and terrier, produced a dog that was in many ways the best of both worlds. The ante-bellum is made up of the aggressive temperament of the olde tyme pit bull and the bull and terrier. The Olde-Timees were known for being docile, but, at the same time, they were very brave and fearless. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, another olde tyme cross, is known for being very playful and loyal, but yet often very timid. The mixture of these two types results in a dog that is very intelligent, very loving, and very fierce. The reliable, strong, and courageous nature of the Olde Tyme Bull and Terrier is very evident, as is the incredibly gentle and loving disposition of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. It is the combination of these different qualities that have enabled the Antebellum Bulldog to get along
