The origin of the name is unclear. The term “Aus-ti” is a shortening of the term “Aussie”, which means Australian. The breeder, Mike Sullivan, who crafted the Aus-ti-pap, was an Australian, so the name has a meaning. The breeding of the Aus-ti-pap began in 2003. Because Mike Sullivan was an experienced breeder of purebred dogs, he knew what he had to do to breed the perfect little lapdog. The first thing he did was to find the stock for the hybrids. They are also very energetic and need a lot of exercise, so they are not the best breed for a sedentary lifestyle.
