The Basset Bordeaux is a type of gundog that is thought to have originated in France, where it was known as the Basset d’Ardennais. The ancestors of the present-day Basset Bordeaux were herding and coursing hounds. The modern-day Basset is a friendly, affectionate, and loyal canine.
Basset Bordeaux Physical Characteristics
The Basset Bordeaux is a small, short-haired, long-bodied basset hound breed that typically stands between 15 and 18 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between 40 and 60 pounds. They have a large head with a long muzzle and round, dark eyes. They have a dark nose and a white blaze on their chest. Their ears are large, pointed, and erect. The skull is broad and flat. The back is arched, the legs are straight, and the feet are rounded. They have a pendulous abdomen. The tail is long and pendulous. The skin is loose and velvety. They come in a variety of colors and patterns, including white, brindle, red, harlequin, tri-color, and piebald.
