The Black Russian Terrier is a medium-sized to very large-sized breed of working dog that originated in Russia. They were bred to be fierce guard dogs, and were used to protect homes and livestock. They are strong, athletic, and agile. As their name suggests, they have a thick coat of jet-black hair that grows in waves. They have long, narrow heads, deep chests, large, almond-shaped eyes, and triangular ears. Their bushy tails are also usually either completely or partially black.

Black Russian Terriers are small, hardy, and agile. They are well known for their intelligence, courage, and independence. Despite their small size, these terriers are surprisingly high-energy. They require at least two hours of exercise each day. This can be broken up into two sessions or one long, vigorous play session. These dogs are best suited to owners with an active lifestyle. If you are looking for a dog that doesn’t have a lot of time requirements and is content to live indoors, this may not be the breed for you.
