Boykin Spaniel History
The Boykin Spaniel is a mid-sized gundog of the American English type that is recognized in North America. The Boykin spaniel is a descendant of the Brittany spaniel, which in turn descends from the hunter-retrieval dogs of medieval Europe. The Boykin is a gundog that was originally developed in the 19th-century United States. It is lightly built, with barrel-shaped rib cage and a fairly long back, and is traditionally red or liver-colored, with a chestnut brown blaze and a white chest. The dog has a moderately long head, a hanging dewlap, and almond-shaped eyes.
