English Bull Springer History
The English Bull Spaniel (also known as the English Springing Spaniel) is a breed of spaniel, originating in England, used for gundog field trials and also as a show dog. The ancestors of the English Springer were a variety of dogs that were used in the 17th century for flushing out, or “springing from”, water fowl. By the 18th century, these types began to spread out into separate varieties. The various “springer” types were officially recognized by the Kennel Club in 1903. The Old English springer spaniel is recognized by the AKC but is no longer considered a separate form. The terms “English springer” and “English bull springer” refer to the same variety of spaniel.
