The Eskenji is a medium-to-large sized guard and watch-dog of Central Asian origin. The origins of the Eskenji are obscure and most likely occurred prior to the time of the 3rd century BC, in Central Asia. The Eskenji is a skilled hunter and an excellent watchdog. It is loyal and protective, but reserved with strangers. An Eskenik is highly intelligent and can easily learn new tricks.

The Eskenji is a medium-sized, short-haired breed of dog. It is thought to be one of the oldest native breeds of Indonesia. The breed is prized for its intelligence and trainability. It is alert, agile, and has a good temperament. Its height is approximately 22 – 24 inches (56 – 61 cm) at the withers and weight 14 – 19 lb (6 – 8 kg).
