Foxy Rat Terrier History
The Foxy Rat Terrier is a small, agile ratter. The Foxy Rat terrier is nicknamed “the fox terrier of ratteries”, and it is said that it “hunts with the speed of a lynx and ferocity of a stoat”. The Foxy was bred in Australia from Foxhounds, the Bloodhound, the Whippet, the Dalmatian, the Airedale and the Black and Tan Coonhound. They were first shown at Sydney Royal Show in 1905, and were shown in obedience in 1922. The Foxy was kept by the aborigines and used for driving wild pigs and rats out of the native forests. The 1920’s and 30’s saw the Foxy become very popular with farmers and graziers throughout rural Australia. As possums were becoming a big problem, the werner started to be used as a bait dog.

Foxy Rat Terrier Temperament and Behaviour
The Foxy Rat Terrier is an energetic, playful, and affectionate breed of dog. They are friendly and loyal to their owners, but can be timid and shy with strangers. They get along well with children and other house pets.
Foxy Rat Terrier Activity Requirements
Foxy Rat Terriers were bred to hunt rats and other small vermin. They are feisty, energetic, and fearless. Because of their small size, Foxy Rat Terriers can be happy living in an apartment and only need 30 minutes of vigorous exercise a day. They love their walks, but they don’t need much space to expend their energy. If you are looking for a dog to keep you company on your morning jog, a Foxy Rat Terrier may not be the best choice. They are more likely to want to stop and sniff everything along the way.
