German Wirehaired Sprointer History

The German Wirehaired Pointer or shorthaired pointer (Deutsche Wölberwirehaired Pointer) is a medium-sized breed of gundog in the pointing-dog family. It is also known as the Shorthair Pointer, the German Longhaired Pointer and the Thuringian. It is one of four varieties of the Weimaraner, the other three being the long-haired variety, the long-hair/medium-haired mixed-breed variant, and the smooth-haired or “rough” variety.

The German Wirehaired Pointer is a medium-sized hunting breed that is typically 22 to 27 inches tall at the shoulders. They have long, slender, muscular bodies with short, wiry coats and broad chests. Their heads are long and slim with a wide muzzle. Their eyes are typically dark in color and they have an extremely keen sense of smell.
