Labahoula History

The Labahoula is a scent hound that is native to the swamps and marshes of Louisiana. The Lab is a herding and guard dog that was developed by crossing the Bloodhound and Mexican Hairless Terrier. The Louisianan cattle drover and trapper Louis Doberman was the first person to carefully select and combine these different bloodlines. The Lab mix he designed was a real hit, and it spread quickly throughout the area. The newly-christened “Doberman Pinscher” was then exported to Europe, where it received a new name – the “Poodle”. The “Lab”, as it is commonly known, is a descendant of the Dingo, though the two breeds are very different in appearance. The “Lab” is a medium-sized, athletic, agile, and muscular working dog. Labahoula Activity Requirements

The Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, or “Labahoola” for short, is a natural hunting dog that originates from the South. This intelligent, high-energy, and loyal dog has a laid-back personality, but their energy will quickly become apparent once you bring them home. Labahoolas are not the type of dog who is going to spend all day lounging around. They are going to need lots of exercise and attention. A long, brisk walk or at least a few games of fetch a day will keep your Labahoola happy. If you are thinking about bringing a Labahoola into your home, be prepared for lots of energy. They need to be kept busy, both mentally and physically. They are highly intelligent and like to be engaged, so make sure you have plenty of time to give to your Lahaoloa.
