Miniature Irish Wolf Schnauzer History
The Miniature Irish Wolfhound is a smaller version of the Standard Irish Wolfhound. The Miniature Irish Wolfhound belongs to the Sighthound family of dogs. The miniature version arose due to selective breeding by breeders trying to produce a smaller and more agile pack animal. The first recorded evidence of the presence of the Mini/Midi in Ireland is from 1348 when King Edward III of England, along with his wife Philippa of Hainault, are said to have owned one. The popularity of the Mini/Midi soon began to decline as it was no longer considered suitable for hunting due to its reduced size and agility. By the 1700’s, the Mini/Midi was considered extinct.
