Old Anglican Bulldogge History
The Olde English Bulldogges (sometimes abbreviated as OEB or OEB/Bull) are an American Kennel Club (AKC) approved, mixed-breed breed of bulldog. Olde English Bulldogges have roots that can be traced back to pit fighting in the 1930‘s and 40‘s. However, the Olde English Bulldogge was bred to look and act like a pit bull. The breeding practices of the founders of the modern American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) were entirely based on the belief that a dog should be bred for strength, not for temperament. As a result, the APBT, like the modern Bullmastiff, was ferocious and temperamental. In 1929, a breeder named Dan Beard was contacted by a man who wanted to buy a “fighting bulldog”. Beard had purchased from this man a patchwork litter of 15 puppies, all different in coloring, size and markings. He realized, however, that all the pups had inherited the tenacity, loyalty and bravery of the ancestors of their sire, an English bull-baiting bulldog.
