Papimo History
The Papimo is a toy-sized Portuguese water dog that dates back hundreds of years. The Papimo is descended from Portugal’s ancient water dogs, which were used by fishermen as messengers and retrievers of fish. The ancestors of the present-day Papimo can be traced back to the ancient “alpaca” type, or “beardogs”, that lived in what is now northern Portugal during the Roman occupation of Iberia. These dogs were used by the fishermen of the northern coast as messengers and retrievers of fish. The modern-day Pão de Bacalhau, or “hairy pack of wolves”, are originally called “Pinheiro” (“pine tree”), and were also known as “pack of wolves”, “wolf pack”, “dog of wolves”, “dog of pine trees”, or “wolf-dog”.

The Papillon is a small, dainty, and graceful dog that thrives in an active home. They are playful, outgoing, and affectionate. These dogs are good with children and other types of pets. A daily walk or jog is a perfect way to give your Papillon the exercise they need. While they aren’t the fastest of runners, their short legs mean they can sustain long distances. If you are looking for a fun, small, and affectionate companion, consider adopting a Papillon. They are best suited to owners who love to spend time outdoors. While they don’t require much exercise, they will benefit from having their own space to run.
