Patton Terrier History

The Patton Terrier is a medium–large terrier-type breed of dog developed in the United Kingdom. It is named after Lieutenant General George S. Patton, Jr., a U.S. Army general and World War II hero. The Patton Terrier is a Class A working-dog, used for vermin control, search and rescue, and obedience trials. It is also known as the Pointer–Terrier, due to it having characteristics of both a pointer and a terrier. The coat can be either smooth or wiry. The Patton was originally developed for hunting and as a general purpose farm guard. The breed was recognized by the United Kennel Club in 1944. ## What is the history of the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever dog breed? The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is a remarkably intelligent, versatile, and athletically built retriever. They are easily trained and excel at many activities. The ancestry of the NSDTR-breed was in North America since the end of the 18th century. The ancestors of the NSDTR are a combination of English, Irish, and Scottish water dogs. The breeding of the NSDTR-breed started in the 1800s in Nova Scotia. This region has been the breeding ground for many other famous breeds such as the Newfoundland, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, and the Black Labrador.

Patton Terrier Physical Characteristics

The Patton Terrier is a small, medium-to-large sized breed of terrier that is typically between 16 and 22 inches in height and weighs between 11 and 25 pounds. They have a wiry body and a medium length, harsh, straight, single layer overcoat that is predominantly red, but may also be black and white, and brown. They have a strong, sturdy, muscular build and a tri-lobed, pendant shaped head. Their eye color is light brown and they have a thick, full, round muzzle. Their ears are erect and stand off of their head. The Patton Terrier is agile and alert with a great deal of stamina. They are intelligent, lively, courageous and fearless dogs that may be suspicious of strangers.

The Patton is an energetic, playful and friendly dog. They are devoted to their family members and can be somewhat territorial. The are strong, courageous and intelligent, and make great watch dogs. They get along well with children and other house hold pets.

Patton Terrier Activity Requirements

The Patton Terrier is a small, hardy dog that is well suited to adventure and an active lifestyle. They make a great hiking companion and love being outside. Most Patton Terriers will flourish with at least three walks or runs each day. Some owners even participate in activities like agility or weight pulling with their terriers. While a backyard will work for this breed, they do prefer to be out and about. While a high-energy home will be the best match for an active terrier, they can still be happy in an apartment. They do, however, require a large amount of exercise and mental stimulation, so plan on taking them out for a good, long walk each day.
