Pomeranian History
The Pomeranian is a toy or miniature Spitz-type herding and guard dog of the spitz family. The Pomeranian is descended from the now-extinct Central European Owtcharka and the German Spitz. The name “pomeranian” originated from the Slavic pomoraca, meaning “fleecy”, and refers to the thick double coat of the “Pomeranian” type. The origin of the modern Pomeranian is somewhat disputed. Some claim that it originated in Poland, while others state that it originated in Russia. The Pomeranians were recognized by the United Kennel Club in 1888. The AKC did not recognize the Pom until 1996. Recently, the obedience, field, show, and tracking branches of the AKC have recognized the Pom; the conformation branch is still pending.

Pomeranian Activity Requirements
The Pomeranian is a small, lively dog that is known for its perky personality and small size. They are well known for being extremely loyal to their owners. While this small, toy-sized dog doesn’t require as much physical exercise as larger breeds, they still do need daily mental and physical stimulation. A daily walk or a game of fetch are both great ways to get your Pomeranian moving. A fenced yard is ideal for a Pomeranian. While they are happy to live indoors, they do like to spend time outside romping around or chasing a ball.
