Smooth Fo-Tzu History
The Smooth Fo-Tzu is a medium- to large-sized, long-haired, smooth-coated hybrid that resulted from breeding the Lhasa Apso and Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) Standard poodle. The Smooth Fo-Tzu is a medium-sized, low-set, long-legged, compact, well-proportioned, elegant, lively, and very intelligent dog. The coat is silky, straight, and lies close to the body. The Smooth Fo-Tzu was originally bred to be hypoallergenic, but like the Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso, it carries the gene for eye problems. The origin of the name “Smooth Fo-Tzu” is disputed. Some sources claim that it is derived from the French “Fou-Ti”, meaning “foot”, and “Tzi”, meaning “dog”, and refers to the breed’s unusually small paws. This seems unlikely, however, as the “fou-tizi” is an old Italian term for “lion”, which the Lhasa Apso and Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) Standard poodle resemble. Another theory is that the “Fo” in “Smooth Fo-Tzu” stands for the “Poodle”, and the “Tz” for “Apso”.

Smooth Fo-Tzu Activity Requirements
The Smooth Fo-Tzu is a small, short-haired dog that is relatively new to the United States. Originally bred as a companion, the Smooth Fo-Tzu is still a popular pet today. The Smooth Fo-Tzu is an energetic little dog. While they don’t require the same amount of exercise as a larger, more active breed, they do require regular play and exercise. From playing tug and going for a walk to running around the yard, a Smooth Fo-Tzu will enjoy being active and getting some attention. If you are thinking about adopting a Smooth Fo-Tzu, make sure they have plenty of opportunities to be active. They will not thrive in a kennel environment, and they will need some time with you every day.
