Smooth Foxie Doxie History

The Smooth Fox Terrier is a terrier breed of dog that originated in the fox-hunting packs of England. Over the years, the Smooth Fox Terrier has diversified into many varieties. The Smooth Foxie Doxie, or “Doxy”, is a variant of the standard Smooth Fox Terrier. This hybrid, or designer, breed was created in the 1980s by breeding a Standard or Miniature Smooth Fox Terrier with a Dachshund.

Smooth Foxie Doxie Physical Characteristics

The Smooth Foxie Doxie is a small, medium/large-sized, long-coated, terrier-type breed of dog. It originally came from the United Kingdom and was developed in the 19th century by crossing a dachshund with a fox terrier. The breed is 10 to 11 inches (25-28 cm) tall and weighs 14 to 17 lbs (6-8 kg). The muzzle is 3 to 4 inches (7-10 cm), and the tail is 3 to 4 inches (7-10 cm). The fur is 1 to 3 inches long, straight, and silky. The ears are erect and pointed. The eyes are usually dark brown, sometimes hazel or green. The nose is dark, large, and rounded; the mouth is white with tight lips. The tail is docked (shortened).

They are loyal to their owners and can become very protective of them. They are smart and eager to learn new skills, but are also independent and stubborn.

The Smooth Foxie Dachsie is a relatively new breed of small dog. Despite their small size, though, they are an energetic and active pup. While they don’t need a ton of space to exercise, they do need to play. They are a sociable, friendly, and playful dog that enjoys being with people and other dogs. Since they are so high-energy, it is important to keep them busy. A brisk walk or a couple of short play sessions a day will be enough to keep your Smooth Foxie Doxie socialized and happy.
