Tibetan Spaniel History
The Tibetan Spaniel is a mixed-breed, small to medium-sized dog originating from Tibet. The Tibetan Spaniel is considered a national treasure and a protected species in Tibet. In 1958, the Tibetan government established The Public Security Bureau to specifically protect the pedigreed and non-pedigreed specimens of the Lhasa Apso, the Tibetan Terrier, the Himalayan Greyhound, the Chow Chow, and the Lhasa Apso. The bureau also protects the native “country” dogs (Sherpa and village dogs). The Tibetan Spaniel is one of the earliest known ancient breeds of canine. Many references are found in the sacred Buddhist Text, “The Book of Kyang”, which is believed by some to be over 3,000 years old. The Tibetan Spaniel is mentioned there alongside such exotic animals as the snow leopard and the great hornbill.

Tibetan Spaniel Activity Requirements
Tibetan Spaniels are a small, friendly, lively, and outgoing dog. They have a lot of energy and stamina, and they love to play and run around. While the Tibetan Spaniel is not a very active dog, they do require regular doses of exercise and playtime to keep their mind and body healthy. A daily walk or jog or a game of fetch will help keep them in shape. While the Tibetan Spaniel is better suited to a home with an active owner, they are a good fit for almost any home. They make great companions for apartment dwellers and are great with older children.
