Welsh Springer Spaniel History
The Welsh Springer Spaniel is a dog that originated in Wales. It is closely related to the Cocker Spaniel. The Welsh Springer is one of the two official spaniel breeds of Wales, the other being the Clumber Spaniel. The origins of the Welsh Springer are unknown, but it is believed to have descended from the Waterside Cocker-type of spaniel that was common in Wales in the 1800s. The Waterside spaniel was crossed with a cocker type to produce the modern Welsh Springer, which first appeared in the late 1800s. The Welsh Springer was recognized by the Kennel Club in 1935.
